About Us
Who We Are
Established in 1977, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Through two warehouse locations and a network of more than 450 nonprofit partners, we provide nutritious food to working families, children, seniors, military, students, veterans, and individuals across the county, and we advocate on behalf of neighbors facing hunger.
Hunger exists in every ZIP code in San Diego County. We believe every neighbor deserves reliable access to nutritious food, and we’re committed to ensuring no one in our community faces food insecurity alone.

Our Impact
- 51.6 million pounds of food and resources distributed last year
- 50.3% of all food was fresh produce
- 400,000 people served each month
- 450+ nonprofit partners across San Diego County
Behind every number is a neighbor: a senior on a fixed income, a family working multiple jobs, a student who needs reliable meals to focus in class. Our impact is only possible because of supporters like you.
What Is a Virtual Food Drive?
A virtual food drive brings our iconic red barrel experience online. Instead of collecting cans and boxes, supporters browse featured food items, add them to a virtual barrel, and watch their impact grow in real time, all from a personalized page they can share with their own network.
Why it matters: A virtual food drive lets us put your support to work immediately. Rather than purchasing individual items at retail prices, we can direct your gift toward exactly what our community needs most, at a fraction of the cost.
What a host does: Anyone can start a virtual food drive. Hosts create a personalized page, set a goal, and invite friends, family, coworkers, or classmates to join in. Along the way, hosts can track progress, build team pages for friendly competition, and celebrate milestones together.
Why it's efficient: A virtual food drive removes the time and logistics that come with sorting, transporting, and storing physical donations. That means your support reaches our warehouse shelves faster, and it frees up our team to focus on getting food to neighbors who need it.
Our Purchasing Power
One of the things that makes a virtual food drive unique is transparency. The prices reflect our actual bulk purchasing costs, giving you a clear picture of your impact.
Thanks to our strong procurement partnerships and the scale at which we buy, we can acquire nutritious food for significantly less than retail cost. That means your gift goes further than it would at a grocery store, and our virtual food drive platform is built to show you that difference item by item.
$1 = 2 meals. When you support a virtual food drive, you’re leveraging our buying power to help provide more nutritious food for more of our neighbors.
